The Dunham Fund presented a grant of up to $660,000 to implement a 1:1 Computer Learning Initiative at the Fred Rodgers Magnet School, founded in 2006 in East Aurora School District 131. Principal Angela Rowley sought the grant in anticipation of the magnet school’s plans to triple in size to 750 students in the next school year.
The total grant will buy a computer device for every student enrolled in the Magnet Academy. With full enrollment, the 1:1 Computer Initiative could provide access to educational software and 300 netbooks for 3th to 6th grade students, 100 MacBooks to 7th to 8th grade students, and 300 Tablet style laptops to 9th to 12th grade students during the academic school year. 1:1 Computer Learning will enhance and enrich the traditional magnet school curriculum, increase focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives, and improve the quality of life for all of the Magnet School students and their families.
