Friends of Kane County Child Advocacy is a nonprofit volunteer organization, focused on providing support services free of charge to physically and sexually abused children and their families which cannot be supplied by the Kane Child Advocacy Center (KCAC), a division of the Kane Country State’s Attorney’s Office.
Friends helps to provide the additional support for these children to rebuild their lives through specialized counseling programs, family support groups, the Adopt-A-Family program, and medical assistance that reduces the trauma of investigative procedures. Friends has also assisted the Advocacy Center with the funding of special projects to aid in the prosecution of child abuse cases. Abuse suspects often take or request photos or videos of the victim using a mobile device, a type of technological court evidence invaluable in sustaining charges of sexual abuse.
Currently, the Child Advocacy Center must utilize personnel and equipment from local police departments in Kane County to have an extraction of a mobile device done for a KCAC investigation. This $20,000 Dunham grant will help Friends to accelerate this process by creating an extraction lab onsite at the Advocacy Center, equipped with UFED technology to extract both surface and deleted data from mobile devices.
