Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) provides lifesaving services throughout Kane, Kendall, and DuPage counties and relies heavily on outside support to provide programs at a reduced fee.
Current services provided for youth include depression screenings, individual and family counseling, educational training and presentations, crisis intervention, local and national hotlines, and support after a suicide. With this Dunham grant, SPS will help with the expansion of its youth suicide prevention programs by providing group counseling for students at risk for self-injury.
SPS was the first organization to develop and implement a support group for individuals who have attempted suicide (Survivors of Suicide Attempts) and believes there is a growing need for specialized group support. The group support setting would be a safe place to discuss thoughts which may contribute to self-injurious behaviors, and would assist members to recognize personal strengths through positive reinforcement from others in the group setting.
