Dunham Fund has partnered with the crowd funding website, DonorsChoose, to make it twice as easy to help local public school teachers obtain materials and supplies for classroom projects not ordinarily included in the schools’ annual budgets. At DonorsChoose, citizen donors can support local projects that match their own educational and philanthropic passions. Their donations will be matched by Dunham Fund $1 for $1 up to fifty percent of each project’s total cost as posted on DonorsChoose by local area educators. Dunham Fund has committed $100,000 of total matching support to benefit local students at the 69 public schools listed on DonorsChoose that fall within the Dunham Fund service area. At DonorsChoose, citizen donors can give as little as $1, double the educational impact of their donation with Dunham Fund, and get the same level of choice, transparency and feedback that is traditionally reserved for those who give millions.
Watch our video and hear the stories of three area teachers who utilized the fundraising resources of DonorsChoose. Mrs. Kispert, at Batavia’s H.C. Storm Elementary, explored the importance of real-world research and marketing with her students to create an entrepreneurial venture in the health food industry by producing and selling “Microgreens” as a healthy substitute for adult vegetables in a child’s diet. At Johnson Elementary in Aurora, Ms. St. Germain was able to provide the materials and supplies for a hands-on “Seriously Spectacular Scientists” project as part of the school’s earth and planetary sciences curriculum. With Ms. Lipscomb and her students at the Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy, experience the excitement and love of learning felt by the 4th grade students who travelled to Springfield, Illinois to visit the State Capitol and Lincoln Museum.
John C. Dunham, founder of Dunham Fund, was known as a champion of education and enterprise. Dunham Fund’s partnership with DonorsChoose strongly supports Mr. Dunham’s vision to encourage innovation in educational programs and projects that evoke positive impact in the Dunham Fund area.
Students at the Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy were able to visit historical sites in Springfield with matching funds made possible from Dunham Fund and DonorsChoose.
