Dunham Fund Grants

Due to the unprecedented crisis that has impacted our community, the Dunham Fund is reacting quickly with an interim grant application designed to streamline our process and honor John C. Dunham’s vision for building a healthy, thriving community with our grantmaking.

Interim changes to our grant process include:

  • Removal of Cycle 2 June 1, 2020 deadline.
  • Suspension of Letter of Intent (LOI) requirement.
  • Submission of online grant requests that are $100,000 or less between now and October 15, 2020.
  • Emphasis on applications addressing COVID-19 community support.

Through these grantmaking efforts, we support requests for program, capital and general operating dollars — in the areas of Education and Community Development — that positively impact the Dunham Fund service area. Preference is given to grant applicant organizations located in the Dunham Fund service area. Grant applicants outside the service area may also be considered if the project can demonstrate a significant impact within the Dunham Fund's service area.

During this interim grant process, supporting local nonprofit organizations that are serving our community’s most vulnerable neighbors is priority. We will continue to consider grants that document a need within our service area, with an emphasis on those requests from organizations that are impacted directly by the COVID-19 crisis.

Requests that are $100,000 or less

We will accept grant requests through online submissions from now to October 15, 2020.

Step 1: Assess Eligibility and Fit

Organizations seeking Dunham Fund support must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code or have a fiscal sponsor that has a 501(c)(3) status.
  • Engage in work that aligns with the Dunham Fund’s mission and priority areas.
  • Provide services in the Dunham Fund service area.
  • Contact the Program Director at the Dunham Fund to discuss your proposed project before submitting a grant application. It can be helpful to both organizations to have your program concept or project previewed before completing the online application.

Step 2: Grant Proposal

If an organization’s request is $100,000 or less, an application may be submitted online. Applications are reviewed by the Board of Advisors and organizations will be notified of the status of their request within 30 days of submission date.

Step 3: Grant Awarded

If your grant is approved by the Dunham Fund’s Board of Advisors, you will be notified by the Program Director and receive an award letter and grant agreement. This grant agreement must be signed prior to receiving the awarded funds.

Step 4: Grant Report

At the conclusion of the grant, funded organizations will be expected to submit a financial and program report. Specific information regarding reporting requirements will be outlined through the submission process and in the grant agreements.

All grant applications must be submitted by October 15, 2020.
